Episode 405 - Deep Dive on Bond and Suppressing our Flair

What better way to kick off the holiday season but with a bit of intrigue, a dash of style, and a stirred martini.  On this deep dive, Sigi and Jezzie get to the bottom of why they love the James Bond franchise and when this love affair began.  They talk about who their go-to Bond actors are, and then analyze the anatomy of what we quintessentially know as the Bond style.  Later, Sig and Jezzie discuss how our flair (and who we authentically are) is sometimes suppressed by the Filipino idioms of “OA,” “Ay, Nosebleed,” and “char or joke lang.” Jezzie ends with challenging us all to embrace and celebrate each other’s flair.  After all, it costs nothing for one candle to light another! Taste Test of ”Eternals” (Episode 404.625)

On this Warm Up, friend of the Halo Halo Podcast, Raie replaces Jezzie while he is on location. Sigi and Raie do the VIP experience to take in the latest from the MCU---Eternals. Likened to a Mandarin buffet and all you can eat sushi, these two dish about the beautiful and diverse heroes; visually stunning landscapes and a questionable time spanning plot that under served a huge cast. They weigh in on why they both stan Kumail and Gemma;  their love of underrated actors (including Lauren Ridloff and Salma Hayek); a meh reaction for the stinger; and puzzlement over the flying Kit Kat/Toblerone serving as the Eternals’ vehicle. Hold on to your glass of Kim Crawford wine and buttered popcorn and listen in!

Episode 404 - The Aswang Project Controversy and Cultural Appropriation

On this week’s full episode of The Halo Halo Podcast, linked to the November theme of Filipino Folklore, Jezzie and Sigi unpack the controversy of the Aswang Project. They discuss whether the creator was a cultural tourist and further delve into the meaning of cultural appropriation. Later, Sigi asks Jezzie if it can be done right and how to respectfully celebrate other cultures. Jezzie encourages us to ask ourselves: 
“What part do I play in contributing to another culture?”;
“Can I build upon it respectfully?”; and 
“How can this appropriation deepen both cultures?”

Sigi recounts a spooky encounter with his son Mack; Sam shares her love of scary movies and Jezzie admits that he may be a victim of jump scares while watching a spooky flick. Taste Test of ”The Morning Show” Season 2 (Episode 402.625)

On this Taste Test Episode, we sample The Morning Show Season 2 streaming on Apple TV.
Take out the charcuterie plate and waygu beef meatballs as the Jezzie and Sigi revel in some prestige tv. Could there be a return to appointment television with the weekly drops of episodes? Can a TV program showcase actors giving “looks” to emote so much more? By the way-- Sigi is stanning Billy Crudup/Cory Ellison and “JEN AN.” Jezzie is loving the flashback to the beginning of the pandemic and how 2020 is going to be documented.
