Episode 312.625 - Empowerment through Solidarity and Mourning
Wednesday Mar 24, 2021
Wednesday Mar 24, 2021
On this extra Social Justice episode of The Halo Halo Podcast, Jezzie and Sigi take a moment to reflect on the shootings in Atlanta and anti-Asian hate covered in the media as revealed by the pandemic. They discuss the spectrum of prejudice and the overwhelming range of emotions that the Asian Community is feeling at the moment. Jezzie encourages us to mourn together as way to bring about global justice, as suggested by Judith Butler, who makes that assertion in Precarious Life: The Powers of Mourning and Violence.
Jezzie and Sigi candidly share their thoughts and feelings. We at The Halo Halo Podcast encourage our listeners to do the same and share your thoughts of grief and loss with others. In mourning together, we empower our community and ourselves.

Episode 310 - Intersectionality
Friday Feb 19, 2021
Friday Feb 19, 2021
On the third installment of our four part series on Social Justice, Jezzie helps Sigi sort issues that need advocacy by adopting an intersectionality analysis. Jezzie explains how intersectionality arose from work in critical race theory being applied to legal studies, as a way of understanding why certain changes in the law to address discrimination did not create sizeable changes in oppressed people’s lives. He also discusses the importance of intersectionality to consider when facing multiple oppression. Jezzie guides Sigi through an exercise to explore intersectionality as to highlight one’s social location and shares the importance of giving a voice and place those voices front and centre to the injustices that they experience.
