Episode 604 - Early Empire Era and a Call to Action

As The Halo Halo Podcast continues with the Star Wars universe theme for November, they focus on the early empire in occurring between Episode 3 and Episode 4 of the Star Wars saga. First on their pop culture catch up they touch on the situation in the Middle East, end of the SAG-Aftra strike, Just Jack and Will podcast and Season 2 of "Wheel of Time."
Jezzie then discusses the Disney+ series, "Bad Batch", "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and "Andor" and how they depict the rise of the Empire Era where it was a time of darkness for the Jedis and Imperial Era. Sigi and Jezzie both fawn over the cinematic feel of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the strong cast including the character Tala Durith and the young Leia Organa.
Jezzie ties in that the three series share the theme of a call to action and the reluctance of a hero responding to that call. Further, Jezzie describes instances where we may be reluctant to a call to action and discusses why we may have those feelings of reluctance. He encourages us to challenge those feelings and be aware that we are all collectively in this together and the importance of helping others may serve as motivation. The fixing for this week would be to, Respond to the call any way you can.

Episode 603 - The Mandoverse and Helping the Cause

During the month of November, The Halo Halo Podacast will focus full episodes on the Star Wars Universe much to the delight of our co-host Jezzie. First, our co-hosts play pop culture catch up on Sigi’s binge on Britney’s memoir; Jezzie’s delving into the Halloween franchise and remembering and honoring Matthew Perry. Next, Jezzie virtually grabs Sigi’s hand and leads him into the Mandoverse recapping the Mandoverse trifecta of "The Mandalorian"; "Book of Boba Fett" and "Ahsoka". Sigi enters the Mandoverse and shares his thoughts on "Ahsoka" much to Jezzie’s delight. Further, the Jezzie  highlights that in some ways, these series have been messaging the idea that we still need to help the cause as the rebellion becomes the new way of life in the galaxy. Jezzie goes on to discuss on how we can help the cause for the Filipino Communities in the Diaspora can mean many things. He touches on sharing equity and generational wealth; keeping the door open and mentorship. He leaves us with the cultural fixing of asking ourselves how we can help the next generation.

Episode 602 - Free-Ad Supported Streaming TV and Residual Ideology of Filipinos

Jezzie and Sigi continue with the theme of Hollywood Labour Movement, but first Sigi reveals a Halo Halo Podcast listener request and shares that he is gunning for a Dad Award as he secured tix for him and his daughter to see Olivia Rodrigo! The convo steers towards residuals and the current state of the actor’s strike. From streamers being secretive on metrics to free-ad supported streaming tv, the discussion steers towards the residual ideology of cultures. Residual ideology are cultural beliefs and practices that were dominant at some point but are contrasting to the dominant ideology of the day.
Jezzie brings up some examples of these ideologies such as gallivanting and revolutionary sprit that continue in the Filipino diaspora. He encourages us to reacquaint ourselves with our traditions.
