Episode 601 - Union and Working Class Movies & Classism amongst Diasporic Filipinos

On the Season Six premiere of the Halo Halo Podcast, Jezzie and Sigi reunite after a couple of months and recap a stellar adventure to Seafood City and Jolibee and discuss the Hollywood Labour Movement with the recent developments in the WGA Strike as of their October 2nd recording of this ep. Their discussion focuses on movies of the working class including Newsies, Norma Rae and one of Jezzie's favourites--Pride which tells the story of how a small lesbian and gay activist group supports the struggling miners of a small Welsh town in the 1980s. As the movie involves both groups discovering common humanities, Jezzie ties in finding common humanity being a Filipino in the diaspora. He urges us to find power in seeing our common culture and shared traditions rather than judging.

Episode 518 - Return to Country

On this episode of The Halo Halo Podcast, Sigi and Jezzie welcome filmmaker, Eric Cervania to the virtual studios to discuss his short film, Return to Country. In this film, a young boy connects with his Filipino heritage through a facetime call with his Lolo and discovering the joy of giving through a balikbayan box. The film premiered on July 8th and recently the cast of the film received a Best Cast nomination at the Alternative Film Festival. Eric shares his journey into filmmaking, growing up in Oakville, his love with cinema and creating this special project. To kick off this month of July the Halo Halo Podcast is focussing on all things summer and what better things to talk about in the summer, but bridal fashion. The owner and creator of Katherine Kruze Couture, Catherine Sion joins us in the virtual Halo Halo Podcast studios. She shares her immigration story and her journey into designing exclusive and handmade bridal gowns.
